Looks like a dealer/reseller label. Are there any other labels in the mandolin? A picture or two of the instrument would be helpful too.

    I don't think that is a dealer/reseller label, because is a Calace's style

Very interesting. I have an example of a Calace mandolin with the same label in my files. Alas, it has no date and no other information. It is a bit more modest design.

I had a mandolin by Nicola M. Calace (who moved to the USA before 1900 if I am right) with a similar label - check my gallery:

    Nicola Calace Mandolin

It has some similarities with the mandolin by Cale.

I guess that the mandolin was built around 1900 or earlier.

Very interesting that i fratelli were both marketing their instruments (separately) with the HugBros in Zurich.

I do like these "Rorschach" scratchplates.

I'll let others venture a guess on its worth. Are you fixing to sell it, Cale?

The most logical guess that Fratelli Hug in Zurich relabelled both mandolins or perhaps insisted that all stock they sell have their own style of label and Calace simply followed.

Hmmm. I have a Swiss colleague who insists on all documents being in Helvetica before he reads them.

Another example of a Calace (from 1921) here with reference to an added F. Hug label. Lots of other beautiful mandolins, too.

    Mick

BTW we had another conversation about the HugBros about five years ago. I am getting soft in the head.

    Thanks for your answer,

it is possible that the brothers sold mandolins Calaces on their behalf.

According to research of his history, Raffaele was most important liuther of Calace's family and this piece was made earlier separation with his brother Nicola (he went in America in 1902)

    http://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/...o-Biografico)/

the exportation of first instruments of their work it was in Switzerland, this label according to me is earlier 1900.
before that Raffaele wons award he was unknow in the world for his particular dowry of the music and lutherie.
later 1900 we find label with awards and honors, later their separation.

below there are two label of Raffaele Calace with honors and with Hug's Label
