    Default Robson Tuners

In the NAMM thread these were mentioned. I've never seen them. Am I living in a vacuum? How many are aware of these tuners?

The mandolin tuners are here if you just want to see them:

Many people are aware of these fine tuners. In fact, they have been extensively reviewed and discussed here on the MC. Apparently, it's you who seem unaware that others are aware!

Keith Robson makes beautiful tuners for guitars and mandolins that are increasingly being used by top luthiers. Andy Manson is, I believe, a client. When the maker of my custom mandolin delivered it with cheap junk tuners, I spent my own money on the lovely set in my profile picture. I am delighted with them.

They were profiled in American Lutherie a couple years ago. Really nice work.

Late night mistake by me - the American Lutherie #109 article was on Rodgers tuners, not Robson.

Here's a question, can you make worm over F style tuners?

Actually several mentions and two real discussions that went off the rails quick. I still should have noticed them. I obviously have been living in a vacuum.

Looking at the Rogers page I'm not seeing any mandolin tuners, lots of guitar stuff. I didn't know about that one either. Thanks.

The ones you illustrate above, Mike, are the engraved ones. Those on the Manson and my Clark GBOM are the "plain jane" versions; which is exactly the way I wanted them. I have quite a selection of tuners on my mandolin collection from Schaller to Waverley and even a set of Allesis. The Robsons are as good as any of them.

Just to make Ivan jealous, they even came with ebony buttons. I believe that Keith turns his own.

What I'd like to see is a plain-jane F style silver or dull silver set with no engraving or black finish on the worm or the screw. Something that actually had more of a vintage vibe rather than a dressed up look.

You can always ask. Apart from his post above, from what I remember, Keith Robson has more of a presence on Facebook than his website but I wouldn't really know, I don't go there.

Hi Ray - I don't have a jealous streak in my body - envious yes, jealous never !!. Keith Robson's tuners look as good as i believe they are. The epitomy of precision !!. The workmanship displayed in Gary Nava's post looks un-beatable to my eyes - brilliant work,

What price range are we talking about here? Are these comparable to Waverly's and other handmade ones?

According to the website, the A & F style tuners are $375 US dollars. They look to be very nice, but not inexpensive.

I had a feeling that was the price range, similar to Waverlys, but less than Alessis.

The website starts at around £299 for the basic un-engraved models in the UK but, unlike buying off the shelf from the big manufacturers, I think you can specify exactly what buttons you'd like.

I'm not sure whether they're cheaper than Alessi. I found the Robsons whilst waiting for a reply to my email to Alessi - and I'm still waiting!

Ray - Which make of tuners did the Robsons replace ?. Did you fit them yourself or did you have them fitted ?. I'm thinking of spacing / bush sizes here. I'm also thinking that a nice set of Robsons - Gold / black buttons would grace my Weber "Fern" very nicely. My Weber is the only one of my mandolins to still have tuners, which despite applying Frank Ford's tuner wisdom, don't work quite as well as the Schallers on my Lebeda or the Gotohs on my Ellis. There's no 'friction',but they're still stiff(ish),
