    Default 1st A-5 finished

Just finished my first carved top mandolin. Some good, some not so good, some bad, and some that looks like fido's butt. I would like to express my gratitude for the cafe. Without it I would have never met my mentor and friend James Bernabe. He has been everything to me during the build. Shared his tips and advise willingly and put up with my hard head. Listen to Volume 5, Drifter, to hear how incredible his mandolins sound. I have built flattops but this was like switching from high school ball to college ball. Next one will be better. Makes me admire you guys even more than I already did.

Your number one doesn't look bad to me, not seeing any Fido bits! Remember, every one gets better as you learn more! Nice start!
I have serious doubts how my first three dozen would look!

Great job. You have a fantastic mentor, too. Keep on building. Welcome to college ball. Not everyone gets a chance to even try playing there.

Thank you everyone. I already have the stuff for some more, so I am committed. This is like an addiction, you always think you can do better.

Really looks great Graham! I still have my #1 hanging on the wall and doesn't even come close to your 1st build! Yes, James is a gentleman and scholar. He has always been open with sharing his knowledge of mandolin building whenever I have asked. Be warned...this is a very addicting hobby! lol! Good luck with future builds!
