What's out there right now in terms of F-style cases that can handle a mandolin wearing its Tone-Gard? I don't have the budget to get a fancy Collings or Calton, etc, but I don't want garbage.

I have a Gator softside that takes my Northfield with the TG on with room to spare...

My Ellis F5 came in a Guardian "Vintage Hardshell" case, and it accommodates a ToneGard just fine.

A Travelite should be fine. I have my A style that is very deep in one a it just clears the bridge, and I would guess Silverangles are half an inch deeper than most. the Tonegard is a non issue in the scroll area.

+1 for the Hiscox. Travellite should also fit.
Bobelock Arrow! Comes with a backpack too.
From Johnny60 - "Travellite should also fit.". The Travelites are an excellent case, but, having one, & knowing that my Weber "Fern" is a snug fit without a Tone-gard,i'd have to try my mandolin with a Tone-gard on inside one before i'd buy one - just in case.
Maybe some Travelite + Tone-gard owners can help out with some advice ?,

My Krishot with Tone-gard fits perfect in my Travelite (it's a snug fit, but not too tight), can make a picture later if you want.
My Weber Yellowstone fits in my Travelite and it is a snug fit.
My Northfield Airloom case accommodates my Artist with a toneguard on it.
George - My Travelite case, which i've had for 8 years or so now,is the only case in which all 3 of my mandolins fits 'snuggly'. It currently houses my Ellis "A" style, but has been home to both my Weber Fern & Lebeda at times. It just seems to 'fit' everything - terrific cases - un-glam & much underated IMHO,

Hi Ivan,
The reason it should fit into a Travelite, is because a friend has a Summit F100 with Tone Gard which fits into his Travelite. When I needed a case that would fit my Northfield with TG attached, I tried it in his Travelite and it was a perfect fit. However, I just couldn't source a Travelite over here in the UK, so In the end I went with a Hiscox which fits really well.
I have a Price Streamline F case with Weber Yellowstone F with tone-gard always installed. Snug and safe.
Hi Johnny - Thanks for the info. Travelite cases are unavailable over here simply because Saga, the makers, are only willing to ship a minimum quantity of 30 cases per retailer - i got that info. from Gremlin Music, the import arm of Hobgoblin Music. I wonder how many US stores buy 30 Travelites at a time ???. A friend & fellow UK Cafe member from Scotland owns a Summit F5 & uses a Tone-gard,but i don't know what case he uses - maybe he's the same person ?,

Hi Ivan, no not the same guy. My friend lives in Yorkshire.
I used to have a KM-1000 with a Saga fiberglass case. The mando and tone guard fit just fine.
Mine fits in both my TKL rectangle case with molded interior and my Eastman molded fiberglass case.

Tonegard fits in TKL shaped F, Canadian shaped F, Bobolock Arrow, and Hilcox cases from direct experience.
However, you have to consider the size of your individual mandolin in this equation. I believe that I just read a post on the Cafe that said that Webers are slightly larger than "standard" size. That might have a major effect on getting a Weber in a case with a tonegard.

Pete,
Yes, the Webers' are slightly larger than most others, but with that said the Travelite is a great case. It is too bad that Saga puts such restrictions on the dealers in the UK.
Does not fit in the new Collings vintage style cases (at least my F5 doesn't fit with it on)
Hi George,
Not saying anything about Weber or the Travelite. Just pointing out something that I never really thought of before; that F style mandolins are not all specced the same.
I looked on a couple of web sites after my first post here and found that the bout of a Weber F is 3/16" wider than that of a Collings F. This sorta explains the years of posts that I've read that says a Tonegard doesn't fit in Case A when I've had one do just that.
