I think that the actual title to the song is "THOSE MEMORIES"

    CHORUS:
Those memories of you still haunt me
Every time that I lay down
I'll always love you, my little darlin'
Until the day they lay me down.

A Google search of ["those memories" monroe lyrics]
    retrieves this:

Those memories of you still haunt me
Every night when I lay down
I'll always love you little darling
Until the day they lay me down

In dreams of you my body trembles
I wake up and call your name
But you're not there and I'm so lonesome
Without your love I'd go insane

Those memories of you still haunt me
Every night when I lay down
I'll always love you little darling
Until the day they lay me down

I close my eyes and you're there with me
Your kiss I feel your face I see
It's not your lips now that drive me crazy
    It's just your haunting memory

Those memories of you still haunt me
Every night when I lay down
I'll always love you my little darling
Until the day they lay me down
Until the day they lay me down

    Waking skies - at sunrise
    Every sunset too
Seems to be - bringing me
    Memories of you

Here and there - every where
    Scenes that we once knew
And they all - just recall
    Memories of you

(oh) how i wish i could forget those, (those) happy yesteryears
That have left a rosary of tears

Your face beams - in my dreams
(in) spite of all (that) i do
(and) everything - seems to bring
    Memories of you

I should really be practicing instead of sitting in front of the computer.

Sorry fellows, these are not the words, there's a line in "memories of you" that goes something like this
    "let me love you, sweetheart,
    till __
every time I call your name, I almost cry
but there's just one thing that I want you to know
I'll love you till the day that I die"

    anybody else??

NOW ya' got us thinkin' - I thought the above was "correct" - I have it(above) by Rondstadt WITH the Seldom Scene!! - beautiful song! - Rondstadt(sp.) is SO eclectic in her choice of music! - Carry on!! - I give up!?#

" Those memories of you still haunt me
Every night when I lay down ... "
    - Alan O'Bryant

Our dobro player often invokes my 'pet peeve' of crediting some famous performer of a song, rather than its author. (In the same afternoon he credited Landslide to the 'Chicks', and 'Streets of Laredo' to Marty Robbins ... we had a talk)

'Those Memories of You (still haunt me) ' sure is a great song, though.

    (chorus)
memories of you sweetheart still haunt me you know
every time i hear your name i almost cry
and there's just one thing that i want you to know
i'll love you till the day that i die

    (1st verse)
we let other people tear us apart
for no good cause you will see
still i hope and pray you'll be mine someday
we'll live and love each other you'll see

    (2nd verse)
now if you go don't ya say goodbye
for you know just what it will cause
don't leave me here to face this cold cruel world
without you i'm the one that's lost

now that's a great tune. didya hear that off the smithsonian bill/doc watson albums? i can't get enough of them.

Wow, this had me confused for a while. The 2 songs here are probably the most easily confused (in terms of titles alone) Monroe songs.

The one you had in mind, "Memories of You" was recorded as a duet with Jimmy Martin in the early 50's around the same time as I'm Blue, I'm Lonesome and I'm On My Way Back to the Old Home. It is a slower number in waltz time with a great unique tenor part.

The song "Those Memories" (the first lyrics given above) is probably most famous for being on the "Trio" album of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Rondstat. It is a little more uptempo and has more of a stompy or driving feeling to it usually. It is also written by Monroe. It was on the album "Together Again" with James Monroe ('78).

The only two songs I can think of that may be more confusing are "You Won't Be Satisfied That Way" and "Will You Be Satisfied That Way".

JD you got it! this song is also on the original "Idle Time" tape (I think) by Nashville Bluegrass Band. And Alan O'Bryant does it on a Monroe tribute tape. I'm amazed at the knowledge of the people on the Cafe. I've learned more reading this message board about bluegrass music and mandolins than one could possibly imagine. Thanks to everyone who contributes!

And, since no one else mentioned it, the original recording, on the outstanding 'High, Lonesome Sound' album, has a cross-tuning on the mandolin. It is the same tuning as 'Bluegrass Ramble' the 1/2 tuning from 'Get Up John'.
And it is a great Monroe/Martin duet, with a parh'ful mandolin break.

Hey, thanks Andy. I do so hate getting the credits wrong, that I stand happily corrected.

Ah! - Them Monroe-Martin duets! Get to ya' ev'r time!. Now - perhaps they're "together again" - I'd be first in line for a ticket - I'd just wanna' sit close....an' listen. It'd be well worth the...."trip". (Just my .02)-
