Default Adam Buchwald 5-string fanned fret electric

Fender Jag shape, cherry burst, Almuse UK neck humbuckerbridge single coil. Looks gorgeous, sounds fantastic. Can't wait to dive in and see what sounds I can make with it. Already gigged on it once using just a straight mellow jazz tone and a little bright tubescreamer rhythm tone, and it sounded like a dream. Vid/audio to come. Adam's shop is Circle Strings, check him out, he does really great work.

Might I recommend shorter set screws for the bridge pieces? Those are going to dig into your hand terribly.

Would the fanned fret mando help someone with bigger hands?

I have a friend who could benefit from that--it's the main reason he never took up mandolin.
    I think he'd be a natural.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

That is **beautiful** but Andy Marshall is probably right about those set screws. Ouch.

i was 15 or so, playing a backyard party. i had a matsomuko built memphis strat copy that had bridge screws that stuck up like that. for some reason, i decided to do a pete townshend type windmill. i can still see the scars that the screws left from their tearing my flesh off.

granted, you likely won't be doing a townshend on this, but, those things will cut you.

    Hi,

Thanks for the kind words about the fan fret. It was a lot of fun to make and especially to play.
I appreciate everyone's recommendation about the set screws. I was concerned about these as well but did not have time to swap them out because Joe wanted the mandolin asap for a few gigs. But, to be completely honest, they do not affect the right hand at all. Playing it for a few days, i did not feel the screws and have not heard they are issue from joe. If they bother him, we can always swap them out.

    Adam

What are the scale lengths? I know that Joe likes longer scales overall.
