Default My First Post ala spew

Greetings. Not sure where to post a first post so here it is. I am not a "man of leisure" by any stretch of the imagination. Just another worker bee making some honey for the hive. My handle, Mandoleisure implies a "man"do longing for leisure, ie: opportunity afforded by free time to do something. Or something of that nature.
Anyway, So much great stuff here! I am a very newbie to mandolin. My first instrument is The Loar LM 520. I've had it all of two days after I sent back an inferior LM 370 I believe it was back to Amazon... (another story).
Thanks to the forum and members for all the value offered here.
Thanks to Folkmusician! Setup is great and no flaws whatsoever.
I'll give updates on this instrument as time goes by.
She's pretty uptight right now and tryin to relax.
-mandoleisure, or you can just call me Al..

    Good Morning Al.
    Congratulations on your new mandolin.
Welcome to the cafe forum. Scott has a lot of good free training help and links on the main page. http://www.mandozine.com/index.html Is another great web destination full of helpful information to put music in your mind and callouses on your finger tips.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! My priority is bluegrass. I've been a guitar hack for years and nothing really special came from it. I love the guitar however and know my way around it pretty good. So I have some good fingertips started already. My brother once borrowed to me an old A style mando and it was hard to play. That was many many years ago. He is really into bluegrass so I guess that's where my roots are.
However I do like pop stuff as well. I'm currently watching and learning the old REM tune 'Losing My Religion'. But I watch the youtube video of Boyce Avenue (two brothers, one on mando and one on guitar) and not the REM video. Another one I'm working to do is 'Wait A Minute' I am studying the version on youtube by Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman in studio. (again just guitar and mandolin). I just find it better or me at least to hear two instruments than four or five and watch and learn. Chops, tremolo, appregio all bunched up in such a nice little tune in 'Wait a Minute'! I'm playing and learning every day! Thanks! -al

    Welcome Al!

New mandolins can be notoriously "tight" re: playability; sometimes related to set-up, often times, they just need to be "beat on" to loosen up. Have fun whacking at yours!
