I just bought and installed a jjbelectronics two contact piezo with a carpenter jack (like an armrest clamp). These are passive and don't require a battery, while my acoustic amp provides a mixer so it didn't need a preamp either. It was very easy to install. I plugged it in to my amp and it makes my The Loar LM600 sound very clean, woody and real, without altering it, or having to bear the cost of a serious installation. It reproduces the sound very closely to the actual acoustic quality of my mandolin. I have an under surface K & K mini twin installed with an end pin jack in my Morris A4 and I can't tell any difference in sound quality between the two.
The one I have is good for either a mandolin or violin. Jessie at JJBelectronics provides the two different shaft lengths for the bracket to fit the carpenter jack on your instruments.
I am glad I found a solution for only $69.00 that would amplify my F5 so that I can play it in church when the music calls for more of a bluegrass sound.
