looking back I recommended the John Pearse, and they are good, but I can't say enough good about the Curt Mangan Mandola set, which I pretty much use exclusively now.

I've had the TI174W's on my Collings mandola for a while now and they are the best for me. I remember that I liked the Curt Mangan set however I think the 'feel' was a bit stiff as compared to the Thomastiks. And the sound has less 'twang', or how ever one describes that metalic sound. (Not a bad thing...). I may try some Curt Mangan's again just for a change of pace.
In the time since, I've found some strings for an octave mandolin that improved the sound in a huge way. So the search for the right strings for your mandola is worth the effort.
