Default "Slow West" film, with a wee bit of mandolin!

A few of us were extras during the making of the new feature film starring Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee, just released in the UK this weekend. Its a great film, getting rave reviews, and won a major prize at Sundance, a superb, beautifully filmed new take on the western genre through European/Scottish eyes.

Anyway, my old Sobell, not period, but what the heck, was on set, though not visible in the final film, but here's a fun image of trump player Will Maclean, myself and accordionist Ali Beag MacLeod.

Do go see it! Its superb on the big screen, and a great film!

Huh, looks interesting, not heard anything about it here in the States, would love to check it out though.

From what I have read the very existence of a mandolin on the continent in those days is an anachronism, so that it is a mandolin that is not period is no more of a problem. Very cool picture, in any context.

Our bass player's last name is West. Sounds like a good nickname for him!

Delightful movie. Just watched it via my DirecTV account. Well done!

Oh, that's good Scott, glad you liked it. It has had a ton of great reviews over the past few months. It's something a bit different, which is very refreshing!

best from the "cold shoulder of Scotland", although its quite hot here at last!

    better drift!

Thanks a lot, now I'm $20.00 dollars lighter after having to look up that word.

Never fear - judging from the pic above and having watched the film - i can tell you that the time-travelling mandolin scene would probably have taken place in Scotland not America. Actually, hold on i'm not sure that redresses the issue of anachronisms or not ...

Either way, it's a great little road-movie, well worth the watch.
