Came across this 2013 Loar LM-400 with Allen tailpiece and Randy Wood bridge. It's in mint condition. I think I'm over my scroll envy. Paid $400. Pretty loud and open sounding mandolin.

Yeah the more research I do the more I think I'm digging the A style, that much more money for a strap hanger is starting to seem pretentious to me, no offense to F style guys, and that's not to say I won't own one if I ever come into some good extra cash but the shape I'm in now I can't justify it and honestly I'm starting to appreciate the beauty of the simplicity of an A. Of course I also want to build one and I can't sit here and tell you it might not be an F
Yeah, I appreciate the simplicity and symmetry. Plus, the fact I'm extremely cheap and really like the value you can get in an A-style compared to the F-style.

Gotta be happy with that! Great score!
bbaker, I love those Lm-400's! The flame on yours is incredible. I wanted to let you know that earlier this spring I purchased an LM-600, the Loar's traditional high end F model, and I have been very pleased. It has a really sweet sound and a loud bark. Just yesterday I was playing it on stage and it picked up easily with a parabolic microphone a few feet away. I played some fills, but primarily chop chords and rhythm. I was very pleased with it's performance. The last two F styles I had didn't compare, though one was a $1500 import. This 600 has a really nice, chunky neck and a beautiful flat fretboard with low action-- no buzzes. I must acknowledge Dennis and the Mandolin Store who sold it to me and set it up beautifully. Congrats on your new the Loar!
