    Default Different Tenor Solution

Eddie Davis has posted a new series of tenor guitar demonstrations ... this time on a Short Scale Breedlove guitar, in Viola tuning CGDA. What's different is he has strung the guitar on the interior four strings and (at this time at least) has done no physical changes to the instrument.

    I hope this works ...

There are no less than fifteen videos of him playing on this guitar and it is a nifty trick. In fact, I have an old Tacoma Papoose which I may try this approach rather than shaving a neck. (the Papoose has a 19 inch scale). I think this is an interesting solution if you have a short scale instrument sitting around.

I am not so sure how well that would work on some guitars due to the lack of pressure on the soundboard?
I have done this with classical guitars & the sound is fantastic but I don't find it very appealing playing fours string on a six string neck.
I have been watching him for years, in one of his vids he says he uses short scale instruments with standard scale strings because he likes a 'looser string' certainly cant fault his natural ability!

Many have been futzing around with this idea for years - if not on four strings then on five, and some (Frippishly) on six; mostly on short scale electrics, though some Baby Taylors have been used as well. It's kind of fun playing mando-like stuff on instruments that were not designed for such things. I don't think many have reached Davis' level of commitment, though!
