Thread: Bach on an A oval hole ?

Default Bach on an A oval hole ?

Recently, I searched Youtube for examples of Bach on the mandolin, and what I found was C.Lichtenberg and her bowlback, Marissa Carol and her Lyon& Healy, Chris Thile and his F5, Avi Avital and his trademark mandolin, but no examples of Bach being played on an A2/A4. Pure coincidence? My Pomeroy A2 works fine for Bach.

Yes, pretty much pure coincidence. Bach's works for violin, cello, and lute are remarkable in that they still work on many different instruments. Accordion, nyckelharpa, you name it. They always take on a unique character, but they still work.

Very nice playing. May I ask the name of this piece. Maybe I'll also give it a try.

if you watch the video in youtube you'll see my narrative, which I've cut and pasted right here.

"this is the treble line of Bach's Invention XIII Just a document for my own fun. Sort of on the edge the whole way, but it's fun! Working this up with guitar on the tenor part. Played on my 1920 A3, Thomastik strings and Blue-Chip Large Jazz 40 pick. MacBook mic."

Why being so modest Martin? The oval hole may not be in the correct position, but the sound is nonetheless nice. (As is the playing, by the way)

Robin Bullock plays a Gibson A, and it sounds wonderful:
