    Default Good online PA tutorial?

The band is thinking about moving to a one or two LD condenser set-up. I feel like my PA skills are extremely weak, so I'm looking for a sort of "Idiot's Guide" to acoustic band amplification. Anyone know of a good online tutorial?

You can probably google as well as I can, but here's one article.
I have a first generation Bose L1 system and a small collection of amps. Best for acoustic instruments is the Acoustic Image. Very satisfied with that combination.
Gotta be super careful with condenser mics though; especially large diaphragm. Even a feedback-resistant system will squeal like a pig if you get the mic in the wrong spot or turn it up too loud.

The EV PA Bible has all the information you will ever need regarding PA systems. You can download it for free at http://www.electrovoice.com/download...ype=PA%20Bible .

I've had argument about this before but if you are going to a one mic set up and I suspect even using two ( I have no experience with 2) it's a different game than multiple 57's and 58's. I started with multiple then went to single. Dale Perry helped me get started with the one mic and I much prefer it. Running sound from the stage and trying to play sucks.

I guess what I was trying to say in previous post before I got side tracked is make sure your advisor, live or written understands one mic systems

I'd highly recommend a real book. This one is up to date and covers the basics extremely well. One-mic systems (and no monitor systems) are different from what say, a rock band or modern country band will use, however, and only experience can really teach what works (and does not work). The venue has a lot to do with it too, and you need to learn how to 'read' a venue so you know in advance what approach to take.

Being both engineer and performer at the same time is certainly not easy (and can be a real stress generator!). Many modern digital desks have a 'virtual soundcheck' facility , where you can record a loop of yourselves on stage, then jump down to the audience position and tweak all the settings via iPad and save them for the later show. This is genuinely useful, but presently is only found on the more sophisticated systems - but no doubt will "filter down" as digital prices drop, as they always do, and already are...

Thanks, guys. Almeria, this looks like the closest thing yet, and a purchase may be in my future. But, for now, I'm gonna keep searching for that web source that gives me what seek. Looks like it might take a while.

The Virtual sound check seems an interesting Feature .. seen a friend's Combo,
Where one player has a Wireless instrument rig.

so can be playing Their Part, and doing that walking out in front , in the Room, sample.
