Default Mandolin straps with two strap holes

    Hey guys,

I just took possession of an A-style mando with a button installed on the neck heel. I'm having a heck of a time locating mandolin straps that don't have a loop on one end, but rather, another strap hole. I tried searching the forum to no avail. Any leads as to where to look? Thanks much!

Two more suggestions...Lakota Leathers will make a strap for you with two holes if you ask them. Be sure to know what length strap you want. Also, Alan Gelman's straps at Mandolin Straps of Montana are designed so that you can use the strap with two strap pins. Both straps are of excellent quality and both look really great. Both will run in the $50-$60 range, but IMO well worth it.

Softy straps have the holes on both ends. Just remove the leather tie frome the loop and you're good to go.

Thanks guys, ordered the Levys so I can see where I like the strap length before going the custom route.

You cant take it with you.. so estate sales and charity shops are a source of Leather Belts .. for a DIY job.

    I have a Neotech Strap ,
they are nylon webbing Plastic snaps and Buckles and come with 3 ends that interchange with the snap connectors

I tied end Knots in a Piece of cordage for a long time.. It worked Fine..

Stay away from metal buckles, etc. that will inevitably damage the finish of your instrument.

Be careful, some latigo leather will bleed the dye onto your clothes when wet from sweat, etc.

Andy, I have been using "good" reins for years with no problem but, your point is sound, dye can be a nasty surprise!

Do you not need a punch for the typical hole and slit configuration? I was considering making a few of these myself but was waiting to find a single punch without buying a set or a multi-crimper

I have done both, I actually prefer the "non hole" configuration. I cut the slit as tight as possible so when the leather softens through wear the hole still stays snug on the pin.
I have recently picked up a punch at Hobby Lobby with four or five size punch heads for about six dollars, whack it with a hammer, voila, hole!

Just sharpen the end of a piece of steel tubing and you have a DIY punch.

Some good suggestions above--but I have guitar straps that would be adjustable to be short enough.

I use a guitar strap for my Mandobird--but that is probably a longer length than an A style would be.
But there's still lots of room to get it short enough for one.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?
