Pretty cool, someone should do this on a mando.

A quarter tone flat and a half a beat behind.
May be a little difficult on a mandolin. An oval hole would be necessary, but I'm curious and need an excuse to buy an oval hole mandolin. Amazing how distinct the vibrating strings can be seen.
Pretty cool video. Must have something to do with the string vibration vs. the frames per second at which the iPhone was recording, that made it look the way it does. Kinda like this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uENITui5_jU

Could even be difficult getting an iPhone in an oval hole as well...
I never fail at anything, I just succeed at doing things that never work....
Fylde Touchstone Walnut Mandolin.
Gibson Alrite Model D.
This is an illusion due to how the video is recorded. It still looks way cool.

People: You don't require an oval hole. There's no need for the videocamera to be located INSIDE the instrument to video the strings. You could equally well photograph it from the outside.
...who ever would have thought the were healing powers in an A note? http://attunedvibrations.com/432hz-healing/

The way this works, is using a cell phone to record in direct sunlight. The bright setting with direct sunlight causes the phone to capture the movement of the strings. It doesn't need to be inside the instrument! I did it once:

The part about tuning "A" to 432 Hz for a better resonance with the planets natural vibrations is interesting. Maybe we're all playing a little sharp. A mandolin actually sounds pretty good tuned down a little bit, to my ear. So in 1953 they all agreed on what we have today for a standard A frequency. But back in the day, the pre Snark era, say 1920's what did people use for standard reference, a pitch pipe or harmonica maybe? I think they all just got in tune with each other and if it sounded good you were in tune.

Yes, I agree. This is not the old-fashioned strobe effect you see when wheels in old movies seem to stand still because the movement of the spokes is the same as the frame rate. If it were, you would see a standing wave or stationary image only for certain notes rather than for all six strings as here.
