This is my all time favorite Nimoy/Spock quote. When I first heard it years ago it made a big impression on me, and it's influenced me ever since then when I've tried to make decisions about acquiring things (including mandolins)

I think that Spock statement rates right up there with a Confusious statement of truth.
If I miss one day’s practice, I notice it. If I miss two days’ practice, the critics notice it. If I miss three days’ practice, the public notices it.
Franz Liszt, 1894
It's perfectly logical to me. While you want it, you're free to imagine what it would be like. When you have it, you'll face what that irresponsible dreamer left you with, like it or not.

Live long and prosper. He did. From the long forgotten Photoshop American Gothic thread. I remembered this one but not that I'd created it. That was some time wasted for a good cause.

“Sharps/Flats” ≠ “Accidentals”
While Spock's statement is true enough for most things, musical instruments have an added dimension. Which is wanting to be able to play it well, which fortunately (or unfortunately, I guess) ever seems to go away.
I don't know about this one. I get a far more pleasing feeling out of having the instruments I have than out of wanting the instruments that I want.
As much as I revere Spock, it wouldn't be logical to expect a Vulcan to be fully understanding of emotion.

Feelings are a human emotion....not logical.
Syndromes, such as mandolin acquisition, were are illnesses brought to our galaxy by a Captain Munro from the planet Rosine in another century in time. Dr. McCoy has determined this syndrome to be terminal.

I've felt this way--but not with instruments.
It's always been better to own the ones I own, although it may be true for ones I didn't buy.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?
Leonard Nimoy was one of our local celebrities. He had a house on Lake Tahoe until 2014 which he sold when his health started declining. He would attend public meetings on various topics and helped with The Lake Tahoe Music Festival among other things. He was a "down to earth" person that really seemed to care about things. And as far as I know, he was immune to MAS.
