What point don't you get Londy? The reason for building or owning one of these? It would seem that the point of having one is ostensibly to have an instrument with you at all times.
In reality I suspect that people that purchase them just want a curiosity or novelty item.

Cute novelty item and conversation starter. I wouldn't use it to introduce someone to the mandolin though (not that it was intended for that.) I'd certainly bring it to a jam or festival just for the looks! I guess if you stuck a pickup on it the sound would be tolerable.
I just now noticed that it's only got four strings. That's too bad.
Guess because my mando is small enough to bring anywhere and sounds way better.
