Default Now Is The Time Of Maying (Thomas Morley)

This is a famous madrigal by Thomas Morley, based on "So ben mi ch'a bon tempo" by Orazio Vecchi.

This 3-part instrumental arrangement is by Steve Hendricks:

I've recorded it as a trio of two bowlback mandolins (one nylon-strung and the other steel-strung) and mandocello.

    "Baroq-ulele" nylgut-strung mandolin
    1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin
    Suzuki MC-815 mandocello

Very nice! I am simply in awe of your skill, and output!

Nice one Martin -how is your Baroq-ulele strung? My dodgy deMeglio isn't doing anything and it would be fun to try.

Thanks, all! It's a pretty straightforward piece, but fun to play -- much like Morley's "It Was A Lover And His Lass".

The Baroq-ulele is set up in GDAE, same as other mandolins, but in single strings. They're sold set up as ukuleles, but with the Aquila strings for soprano ukes in fifths it's very easy to change to mandolin tuning. It's my low-budget alternative to a mandore or soprano lute, for early music lute material. I like using it together with the somewhat nasal tone of the Embergher as they contrast well. It allows me to create variety by playing around with the voices: my recording has three verses, with the Baroq-ulele taking lead in the first and last and the Embergher taking the lead in the middle verse.

Thanks, Andy & Pasha. I've just noticed that I have mistyped the name of the tune in the thread title. I can't edit this any more, but for the sake of future Cafe searches i should also list the correct title, which is of course, "Now Is The Month Of Maying" (not "Time Of Maying").
