Very sad. Bill played and recorded with many of the greats. I saw him in the Tribute band last Spring in Denton and Willow Oak. He even sang a few bars of Pamela Brown, one of his solo numbers he recorded with the CG. Although he had stopped playing bass, he was funny and engaging, and shared loads of stories.

James Bailey: "I'm going to pick Foggy Mountain Breakdown now"
Bill Yates: "You better know how. Heck. it's on the first page of every banjo book!"

    RIP, Bill Yates.

Have an old LP of Bill with Red Allen & the Kentuckians, his brother Wayne on mandolin. Another one of the "first generation" BG players gone -- fewer and fewer left now...

I've got that one as well Allen - ''The Solid Bluegrass Sound of The Kentuckians'' on the Melodeon label. Terrific stuff & a great version of ''Hello City Limits'',
