That one looks pretty typical for the era.
I've had a couple (uncertain makes) pass through my hands that had the entire fretboard covered with MOP, and they only went for a couple of hundred bucks. BBs can be very disappointing. There's only certain names that are really worth a lot. It also helps when they're fully intact and have the original fancy tailpiece (if they ever had one.) The L&H harp tailpiece seems to turn some buyers on.
I think it's figured out. The mandolin is pretty much just like the one I showed. I didn't mean to get you guys all stirred up Passionate bunch, I can appreciate that. I'll try to get pics, travel ban, 30 inches of snow, plus... I actually have to see my father to do this :D

Who's a troll?
If I miss one day’s practice, I notice it. If I miss two days’ practice, the critics notice it. If I miss three days’ practice, the public notices it.
Franz Liszt, 1894
I don't think it's a troll. Quite often we get folks that find us that have been told their mandolin is worth much more than it possibly could be. Sometimes that appraisal comes from members of the Cafe community that want to help but haven't got a realistic idea of what the item is worth. Once the OP has posted pictures of the actual mandolin those that can identify it will do so and he or she will have a realistic idea of what the value of the instrument is.

I'm sorry guys. I did not mean to offend anyone. I am not a troll. Maybe I should have rephrased the initial post subject to, "what the heck is this???" I'm the victim of some bull poop here. What I said, was the story as I was told. And it was built up over a month. You guys have dispelled a 'myth' of some kind, as told by one of the people involved.
You took a big weight off my chest. It had me kind of upset. I did some digging, but did not find any contact information on this "luthier," yet. That person could tell a different story. Pics would show you something very close to the link I gave. And it is not even in as good condition, as that one for $450.
I was not offended Johnny and did not think you were a troll.

Unfortunately bowlbacks generally aren't really high priced mandolins. There are exceptions obviously but the only way to really tell you what you have is by posting some pictures.

You are definitely not a troll, Johnny. I sensed from the beginning that you doubted the luthier who gave you this price. Did you actually talk to him? Maybe it would good to go back and talk to him about what he was thinking. Pretty strange in my book, unless your dad misheard him.
