I have not gotten through the whole video yet but felt the need to post. Absolutley the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I have seen Chris Thile do some wonderful things with the mandolin but nothing like this. I am very new to the mandolin and read that this was a must see. Let me tell all that have not seen it, it is a jaw dropping performance by Carlo Aonzo. Everything that can be done on the mandolin is done on this video. If this does not serve as an inspiration then nothing will.

Although I know this is a bit unfair to Melbay but I feel the need to offer copies to anyone who wants one. This kind of thing has got to be shared with as many people as possible.

I must go and see the wrest of this video but will do my best to figure out away to make the copies that will most certainly be asked for.

    Best Regards,

    Scott

PS. If any of you have a way to make copies of VHS then I am certin we can work something out for those that want one.

Please do not make copies of this video. The person you will hurt most will be Carlo. You can read here that there are some plans to have this video transferred to DVD and sold with Mel Bay's permission on a limited basis. Hopefully that will occur soon.

On the other hand, feel free to show it to whoever you want. The amazing thing about Carlo is that he can play these things in such a relaxed way and make them look so very easy.

And he keeps his moustache so nicely waxed, too. Truly amazing and inspiring player.

Yeah, my reactions to the video were WOW, then black depression, since I'll never get to play half so well. After a while, thoough, I was moved to go and practice anyway.

The last thing I want to do is destroy the integrity of this beautiful music and the person that performs it. I am so happy to hear that there are plans for a possible re-release on DVD.

I finished the video and as you can imagine it just keeps getting better. I think Mr. Aonzo is a fan of Jethro's playing.

I hope to reach a 10th of his level so I am off to practise.

For those interested, over the last few years carlo has been offering workshops in New York. They usually last for two days over a weekend in the fall. I am not sure if he is doing them this year, but will let you know.

You can also check his Web site which i hope to update and redesign for him soon.

Why wouldn't Mel Bay release this video as part of their regular production line? Why only on a "limited basis"? I'd love to get this on dvd. Can you keep us posted Jim? Thanks, Scott.

I don't think that Mel Bay wants to issue this at all. According to the guy I know who wants to deal with it:

I don;t think that Mel Bay sees any money in the classical mandolin market. You could contact them and maybe if there is enough interest they would reissue it. Frankly I think it is a treasure.
