I figured, if she couldn't say anything in the way of tribute about Monroe, she would have the good grace to remain silent; she certainly didn't need to call him that. File it under 'Artistic License', or some such.... (search the Bgrass-L archives, May '97, for that whole tempest-in-a-teapot over AK).
I curious in what context she called Monroe a Scumbag...could you elaborate?

By looking at the comments on b-grass L it seems someone was making comments that bill and Alison used to play with each other, poke fun , whenever they saw each other. Someone on the show asked her if Bill always dogged her like that and she responded-"yeah what a scum bag-Just Kidding, Just kidding." And laughter insued. Taken in context it is probably just Alsion playing around like her and Bill used to.

    Give me a break.

Yeah, Alison is a well known "Bill Monroe Basher".

Just so there's no confusion, my above statement is written with "SARCASM" in mind.... (you know........ joke, sense of humor.....funny HAHA stuff.)

I guess Alison has the Bullseye on her now. Looks like popularity brings out the "best" in her former and current fans.

I just started the thread cause I figured they were a little more to it than Alison calling him a scumbag out of spite. #I like Alison...she seems like a real classy lady!

I figured that Ben. Not pointing my gun at you. I was just venting at the generic Alison bashing going on all around. (not just here).

I think the bottom was struck when she was likened to the Supertramp of the suprbowl half time show; all just for being selected (read again "BEING SELECTED") to wear the $2M dollar shoes and "model" the new Crystal cell phone.

..and anybody who really knows her will tell you she is always cracking jokes and has a good sense of humor...it was probably some inside thing between her and Mon...

JDARTGOD...Thanks...I thought I saw a laser dot on my chest for a moment

Who cares if she wore $10M shoes! It can't be nothing but good for us bluegrass players!

I think that, in a live 'Tribute' show to Bill Monroe, she made a distasteful comment. #No matter how many Oscars she is given, or what kind of shoes she wears while receiving them, she still referred to Bill Monroe in a derogatory fashion in a public forum, a 'Tribute'.....
I don't see any need to be swayed by 'popularity' to overlook or forget the incident. #I am as big fan of Monroe now as when he was alive. #
Everybody says things they regret, but not everyone does it on national televison.
My father always said: "De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum. Of the dead speak kindly or not at all."
That's my story & I am sticking to it.

I guess the difference is that I didn't see that she made a derogatory comment at all. #She was characterizing their joking/teasing relationship.

Of course, I didn't see it live, I just read the comments in the archives. #

The great thing is, you can think she made a mistake and not buy her records. #I can think she did nothing wrong and still buy them.

Alison K. is really a very funny lady. Just hearing that comment now makes me laugh. Could anyone take her seriously? Guess some people don't have a sense of humor. Its an absurd statement-meant to be absurdly funny!

Thats the way I see it....AK if very giddish and I think this is entirely out of context.Even though she is "blondish" at times she wouldnt bash WSM

Since we are going back and opening up closets on AK why
dont we do the same on Big Mon.Even though he is the "Father",and always will be the "The Man" on our beloved instrument.....I dont think we want to research all of the things in his closet.

Lets leave this one alone on behalf of both "ARTISTS"

I just finished reading about "that whole tempest-in-a-teapot over AK". It looked to me as if Mr. Reilly and one other individual started the whole thing on Bluegrass-L, and then many others took her word for what they were, A JOKE. Now I remember why I didn't stay on that list long.

I just would like to contribute ONE post to this thread, an' I'm 'outta' here... - AK is a class act - in more ways then ONE & I don't care what kind of shoes she wore/wears - AND, I will give her the benefit of a doubt as to this "controversy" of a "remark" that was/is possibly taken out-of-context. Knowing some(!?) "background history" on Mr. Monroe and AK, I lay money to the fact that the meaning of the "remark" - if made - was in no way derogatory to the musical contributions of the former mentioned "icon" of BG music... - Alison, I'm quite sure knows and respects her "roots" and I salute her for bringing Bluegrass Music to folks who would never have given OUR music an iota of interest! - OK.. I'm outta' here. Moose(the "traditionalist" who admires the work of AK).

I believe the song in question is "Is the Grass any Bluer" and was in fact done by Rhonda Vincent on her "The Storm Still Rages" album. I believe it was written by Cory Batten, Buck Moore, & Troy Seals.
