Is there anything that you would put your mandolin down to do instead? Could be some kind of sport, instrument, hobby. Go ahead and post.

Mine would be golf. Its easy for me to put the mando down for 18. Actually i was off today so i played a round at a local course.

So what would you all do that would make you put the mando down for a while?

Seems like in ineteresting topic to me.

I would lay down my mandolin if I found "the man of my dreams". He would have to have some extremely redeeming characteristics. Then again, what decent man would expect me to give up my mando?

Can't think of any, but I did put it down for a couple of weeks when I first found out I was pregnant... Didn't want to rattle the developing kiddo Then the doctor and my fellow cafe'ers reassured me that it was ok to play and I was off and running again

I'm going to go with PhishPhan's answer here....

honestly, about the only time my mando gets a guaranteed rest is while I eat, unless I am working.....

even then it is only a room away, and a mighty temptation to be sure

There has to be some other thing you all like to do. Come on live just a little.

My wife's been gone all week, and she'll be home in an hour or so.... Hopefully she won't get here before I'm through playing. I'd hate for her to get all put out with me.

(seriously...The mando will hit the case when the garage door starts up.)

I used to put it away for a round of golf, but my game has gotten so bad, I thought I'd take a couple of weeks off and then quit. Should give me more time to pick!

Well sure, I also love horseback riding, backpacking and motorcycling but they all have their place. I don't neglect one interest for another. #Actually, if anything I'm able to devote more time to mando lately since light hikes are about all I can do and the motorcycle and horses are definitely out till after the baby is here! #

Edited to ask: Hey rtjack what's your ride? Mine is a Vulcan 800 Classic

And to say that Amanda Richelle is adorable!

What a cutie Ron. You might want to think about puttin' your mando back in the case before Amanda decides to lay your mando down for you.

I put the mando down to play Hockey in the winter...2-3 games a week. Sometimes, Hockey forces me to put the mando down. I messed up a finger on my frethand last year, couldn't play right for about 3 weeks.

Only one other thing to put it down for...but I drop EVERYTHING for this...

Thanks Rob. I keep the import out for her to play with and keep the Gibson in the Calton case most of the time. She is really good with them, however, she will just sit in my lap and hold the scroll while I play.

I just know there will be a day when she takes it away from me and makes me play the guitar for her. Oh well daddy's little girl gets what she wants.

I'd only lay down my mando if I were on a deserted island with a woman and we were the only two humans left on earth to propegate the human race.

That and whenever my 4 year-old boy or 8-month old girl need attention, which is about every 15-20 minutes #

Time was, I would put the mando down for martial arts, which I practiced for most of 30 years. But a couple of years ago, I got into old-time music and got bitten hard by that bug. Last year, I gave up the punching and kicking for good, not only because of the new passion for music, but also because I had kind of burned out on it. Now there is really nothing other than work and family I will put it down for.

one other thing will make me seriously put the mando down......

although the weather has finally been nice enough to play outside, so we both get to enjoy nice days...

only occasionally do I get "the eye" from the significant other for playing too much, luckily m'lady is fairly understanding

    The fish or the bear?

...The fly is a proprietary pattern I use while guiding, which is what I do from May til mid-June...

    Material-X-on-Hook-Y sorta thing

To get the topic back to the general Mando-ish things that are moderator-sanctioned...
There is an old cabin on this stream, way out in the middle of nowhere, and in this cabin is an old Kay mandolin, with which I do my best impression of human bear repellant for the clients when the fish aren't biting.
