Given the chance to buy one of these beauties brand new from a Major Dealer with free shipping for the old price of $1850; how long would you think it over?
(Bill's website now lists $2400, if you hadn't heard.)

If I were in the market for another mando I would seriously consider it. My girlfriend's OldWave is an older ('96?) Oval-A, and it's a wonderful instrument. It plays wonderfully and has a great sustain.

I played one friend's oval A (it appears on Bill's site with an mp3, I believe) and it is an incredibly good sounding instrument. I would go for it.

    I dunno....
Would you buy a mandolin made by this guy?? #

Seriously, Bill had a curly redwood A at Wintergrass a few years ago that just ruled...
It had that woody A tone...

Lee, I've looked at that one, too. If I had the cash I would simply buy it. Just like that.

Lee is giving me a good-natured jab here, based on a PM I sent him, asking for his advice. His response, of course, was something like "What? You're kidding! You gotta go for it!" I was just on the phone with Elderly and I am pulling the trigger on it. I can't wait!

You won't be disappointed. I'm seriously tempted by his C# in the classifieds right now... The only reason I'd suggest not buying an Old Wave from a dealer is that you'll miss an opportunity to deal directly with Bill. Know you'll be getting a terrific instrument at a great value.

    Enjoy, and good luck,
    Ken

BTW, here are the pix from Elderly's site. They have already pulled it off thier listings, but you can still see it if you have the URL.

Oh, yeah... you did fine! What ever happens to the rest of the bison after he gives up his femur nut? Ouch.

What a stunning mandolin - congrats! I love that combination of black face and lighter back and sides. Just curious; the small ebony finger rest mentioned in the description - is that not on in the photos, or is it REALLY small?

I wasn't aware that the prices have been raised until now.
At the old price of $1800 these mandolins seemed like a great deal and I had a plan to get one one day after I got around to selling one or two of my existing mandos.
Once again I had the right idea; just blew it on the timing.

I talked to Bill B. about the Elderly listing. He said they must have cut and pasted the description from an earlier mando listing and edited it, but not completely. So there is no arm rest. I plan to have Bill retrofit this mando with one of his small finger rests and an arm rest, both in ironwood, to match the other ironwood on the mando.

    Congrats Mando Johnny,

I doubt if you will be dissapointed. Give it a little chance to open up and you will be amazed. I've got an Oldwave Oval A in the oven, should be freshly baked about June or July - can't wait. My first Oldwave (sold it a while back) was real sweet.

    Cheers,

Hey Mando Johnny, thanks for re-freshing my memory with the photos from Elderly. #A matching armrest and fingerest in ironwood will look smashing. (Ugh, poor choice of endearments, sorry.) #
And will someone PLEASE buy that C# in a hurry!

Old Waves are absolutely great -- I've had three, still have an octave and could kick myself for selling the OW mandola.

I hardly ever play manodLIN anymore -- mandola and octave are my preference -- but the Old Wave mando I had was wonderful.

    You will be happy.

Hey, Johnny, congrats... I saw that and considered it (e.g. wished I had enough bucks to buy it)... I did a mando tasting at Lee's recently and played his Old Wave oval...He has a lot of great mandos, but that was the one that really grabbed me that day.
I'm sure you'll be very happy with it!

Yeah, whoever got the C#, 'fess up.
    Whew, thanks, that was close...
Here's a pic Bill sent me. Look, it already has a strap button too. What a nice touch. I wouldn't have had the heart to desicrate it myself.
