    Default tuner screw from A2Z

    anyone know what size thread for these old Gibson tuners this is
    the screw that holds the gear on? better still anyone have a spare
    this is for a friends instrument lost at a gig found gear only?

    Yeah, it's 4-36 thread and about 1/4" long or so.

    Many thanks Michael I'll look through my mystery tap and dies?
    or I may have to make one on the lathe?
    I'm going to see the mandolin on Monday and I can double check

    4-36 is an obsolete thread pitch, but I have been able to find some with Google. One place to check is model railroad suppliers.

    Gee Dave if you end up making one. You might make a few spares, this has come up more than once around here. It might help defray some of your labor, the good karma of helping out some folks who need it would be pretty strong.
