    Shawn,

Lou, his wife Patty, and I are bringin in the calvary...LOL! We've got a real good banjo picker from Austin TX (Shawn Spiars), sweet bluegrass fiddler Tom Dillon, and my bass guy Tad is supposed to pop in on Friday. Lord willin and the creek don't rise it's gonna be epic with our own jam band along...LOL!

We've got to do at least a couple of Monroe jams as well!

Please excuse my ignorance, as I have never been to a Bluegrass gathering like that, but what exactly goes on at these things.
I live in LA and it is not that far to go, but I don't really know what to expect. Do people bring their instruments and just bump into others jamming?

People bring their instruments and wander through the hotel jumping in and out of jams that are pretty much going on all the time but with ever-changing participants...

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like fun.
I think I will wait until I am not a complete hack before attending.

There are jams for every level of player and most are very welcoming. Even if you stay on the periphery and just chop rhythm it should be worthwhile to be part of it.

Just out of interest, how many people usually show up for this event?
If I were just going to drive up for one afternoon, what day would you suggest going for?
I live in LA, so it is not that far, but I can't really stay over as I have an old dog at home, etc...

You can book rooms direct through the Doubletree Hotel local phone number - say you're with the Great 48 to get the special rate - code C-B48.

I'm thinking I might just drive up for awhile on Saturday. I have a baby shower I have to go to in Ventura on Sunday.
