Walter,
That's quite lovely. Very nice piece of wood for the back.
I'd like to hear it when you've got it warmed up.

Hi Bill, that piece of wood on the back came from a bookcase i found at a yard sale. I think i got a total of six backs from that $20 find. Unfortunately that is the last of it.

Very nice looking. Great wood choice. Thanks for showing us.
Love the headstock-overlay to pickguard to tailpiece-cover wood continuity. Well done!

Beautiful mando! Regarding the tailpiece, pick guard, and headstock veneer...is it real wood? It looks great but I've not seen a wooden tailpiece cover before. Very nice.
It ain't gotta be perfect, as long as it's perfect enough!
Very nice, buddy!
Walter, your instruments are always beautiful, but this is a step above even for you! Nicely done.

Thanks for all the compliments! yes its real wood, BOCOTE wood. I had a piece i got at WOODCRAFT thought it would make some nice accents. As a guitar tone wood i think tonally its between a rosewood and a mahogany. It sands and works real nice.
ALAN N i have been wanting to do an x-braced mandolin ever since i played your GIL.
My first x-braced F5 is on the bench now. i am doing the binding work. If i had a way to do a good sound clip, even though i believe they can be very subjective i would. You will just have to take my word for it, but sound wise its strong. A little dryer and crisper sounding than my norm. A very strong and bell like E and A with a more pronounced mid range. The G and D are woody and deep but not overpowering. It will definitely cut through the mix.
I plan on playing it for a couple days before it hits the cafe ads.
thanks again, WALTER
I knew you were smitten the first time you held it....me, too Right now, it's in the skilled hands of our own Skip Kelley for some TLC.
I'd love to try out your latest.
Good work Walter.
