Question Seeking case for Gold Tone OM-800

Picked up a used Octave Mandolin from a store for a good price, however they didn't have a case available.

Any recommendations for where I might be able to find a case for one of these? Also, I think I'd benefit from getting a strap. Any recommendations in that regard?

For the strap suggestion, my favorite are from Lakota Leathers (http://www.lakotaleathers.com). Most comfortable and adaptable of any I have used.

As for the case, perhaps someone who owns your model will chime in. If not, you might check out tenor banjo cases as some OMs will fit in those.

Did you contact Gold Tone to see if they would sell you a case or at least refer you to a dealer who could order one for you? You may also be able to get a resonator banjo that could work, if that is acceptable -- I am just guessing here. It is strange that the instruments did not have a case even tho it was used. It comes with one now:

The Octave Mandolin 800 Plus (OM-800+) is newly designed for 2010 and tuned one octave lower than a standard mandolin. The Gold Tone OM-800+ features include low action and a thin neck for rapid playing. The mahogany back and sides help promote a warm yet punchy tone and the arched solid spruce top increases sustain and volume. Now offered with a compound radius fingerboard and extended scale length, this instrument is amazingly playable and will serve as an alternative to the mandolin sound. Hard shell case included.

I'd contacted Gold Tone. Found someone else suggesting a gig bag, which I may opt for.

I've found Gold Tone to be a good source of cases, even if you don't buy one of their instruments. I have my long-neck banjo in a Gold Tone plectrum banjo hard case (hard to find cases that accommodate long necks and resonators), and my Celebrated Benary 1900's banjo is in a Cripple Creek Mini gig bag.

Further to Jim's post, my new OM resides in a Kinsman Tenor Banjo hardshell case. They are a UK distributor of far east accessories. I had to carry out minor surgery to get the kneck heel in, but this was only removing a bit of fur covered polystyrene -it hasn't spoilt the inside at all.

Too long though it's for a 23" Banjo, and even then it's roomy, my Banjo & OM are both 20".
