Default Autumn Gold, 3 new additions to the family

simply excellent tone, playability, and feel.
    wide nut width 1 3/16"
    englemann top
    maple back/sides
all areas on the FB ring true and rounded
removed all relief, fretboard is flat, dropped the saddle height to real low
plays with a touch and no buzz. the folks in Austin know how to build'm

the 2nd addition is the Tonegard-a simple wonderful tool that helps me hold the A style with no slippage, any tone enhancement is desert

and last but definitely not least, the 3rd addition is "August". Came to our family 2 weeks ago in a cold drizzle rain while we were walking our doggos at midnight. Definitely abandoned, he adapted immediately and is the most wonderful gift one could receive. Saved the best for last-check out August

Man, if that tone guard thingy on the back scratches that mandolin you'll be in big trouble. That baby's beautiful. I want one.

Hudmister, aren't you familiar with Tonegards? I have never seen one in person, but LOTS of the people that post on the Mandolin Cafe sing their praises.

hey, no worries on the tonegard-it slips on and off very easily-very lightweight and extremely well designed and well built. it works great on my A styles. the two bottom prongs(with the clear padded sleeve, work along the pattern of points on a F style-i use them while playing seated-otherwise for me, an A is like a greased marble. This way i concentrate on my playing with no tension in my body trying to hold onto something.

    Very nice!

I seriously looked at Collings when I was searching for an A oval this autumn. The whole package is just excellent ... tone, looks, playability ... I came upon a gently used Kimble A-0 that had the specs I wanted for pretty much the same price as these go for new. I thought was going to arrive today, so it looks like it's going to be a long weekend waiting for me.

Are there 3 different sized fretboard markers (dots)?

Thanks for sharing and enjoy it in good health.

Beautiful mandolin, but the kitten is gorgeous. It's lucky for him and for you that your late night walks converged. I wish you many years of happiness together, and I hope he likes to listen to your new Collings as much as my cats like to listen to my mandolins.

Hmmm...I have a similar set up, including the four legged one. Can't say which gives more pleasure but I can say you are in very good company. Happy picking!

Beautiful mandolin. That last photo looks not to have much bark but I bet those little claws can pick!

That's a beautiful Collings Daryl. If it sounds as good as it looks it should be terrific. Congrats. on your new kitten,it's a gorgeous little animal & what a blessing that you found him. Rather than a 'toneguard' i need a 'kittyguard', as either of our 2 cats is apt to jump onto my lap when practicing. It sure does damp the tone to have a 9 lb cat sitting between you & your mandolin. They're ok when they're asleep though, something that cats are world experts at. However,on hearing me play, many humans seem to react the same way - are they hinting at something ?,
