Is it OK to discuss values or desirability of an instrument? I'm chasing a 1912 Gibson H2 Mandola in really decent condition and I don't want to pay too much. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks!

Sure. As long as you're not talking about yours for sale in the classifieds (for example).

No sir, I don't have one for sale. Although, I'm going after one. It's a 1912 model with a black top and pretty decent condition. What about values? I know it's difficult to say without seeing it. But, any guidance would be helpful. Thanks!
Best thing to do is to run a Google search on "Gibson H-2 mandola."
I did and found this one for $3K at Elderly, this one for just under $4K at Mandolin Brothers, this one for $3.2K at Mass Street Music.
So there you have a price range from major commercial dealers. I'd hope to get a better price from a private sale, if possible; private sellers don't have overhead, advertising, etc. to pay for. Maybe you could get it for something above $2K; condition, case if available, etc. are other considerations.
