Anyone know anything about Scott Napier? I saw him last night with Larry Sparks at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA. He's a super mandolin picker with a brilliant technique. I don't think I've ever heard him mentioned on the Cafe. By the way, Larry Sparks put on one heck of a show. IMHO he's got the best singing voice in bluegrass today--powerful, bluesy, utterly distinctive. No slouch on the guitar either! I wish more people had turned out to see him.

Scott Napier used to play I believe a Gibson Sam Bush signature model mandolin, but when I saw them at the Paramount in Ashland, KY a couple weeks back, he was playing a very nice sounding Hutto. It had that typical Hutto tone and was very, very loud. I was impressed with Larry Sparks also and I agree that his voice is one of the best in bluegrass right now. If you haven't gotten his new CD, 40, you should, it showcases Larry's voice as well as his flat picking ability.

..I love Larrys music as well...when I played with him....lets just say I enjoyed all I could stand...and lets just leave it at that. Scott fits Larry real well....and gets a great sound out of that Hutto...he also played a Dearstone at one time

Scott is from Hazard Ky.he has been playing with Sparks for quite a while now,i once heard he would stay in his room for hours and hours learning Sam Bush licks.
