I use the Frets method linked above. Never had a problem. There are a few tricks that make it easier, I attach the loop to the tailpiece then clamp down the string with a capo to hold it in place while I do the work on the peg head. Also, I only take off one string at a time to be sure the bridge position and angle doesn't change.
