    Default In the club!

My new Buchanan Octave arrived today, Tom says "This instrument has a spruce front and figured sycamore back and sides. The fingerboard, bridge, headplate and bindings are Honduras rosewood. "

I really like the look and the sound and, while it lasts, the heady aroma of a new instrument.

All I need to do now is learn to play it

But it looks really honest and natural with that light back, comfortable "like a potbellied stove on a frosty morning".

Welcome to the world of the "Big" mandolins! Your new instrument looks a great piece of construction.

That is a real beauty! Love the idea of a sycamore back and sides. Sycamore is a very hard and beautiful tone wood that just does not get enough attention and respect IMHO! Congrats!!!

Just curious. Are you talking Sycamore as in "European sycamore" or Acer pseudoplatanus, which is actually a maple or a N. American sycamore (e.g., Platanus occidentalis) which is a water-loving tree species that related to the maple but a separate genus entirely?

In my case Tom wasn't specific, he just said Sycamore, which I'd guess to be the one the grows here in the UK -but that's just a guess.

If I miss one day’s practice, I notice it. If I miss two days’ practice, the critics notice it. If I miss three days’ practice, the public notices it.
