Our string band will be playing at a wedding soon. I'm looking for a tune to play on the mandolin during the processional leading up to the Wedding March when the brides maids are walking up the isle. Preferably one by O'Carolin and certainly not a waltz. I need this to be in the key of G, since we will be playing Newlywed's Reel during the recessional following the march, so the banjo player doesn't have to retune while they're saying their vows. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I think a BG rendition of U2's "I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For" would be a great hit and sure to land you more wedding gigs. #JMHO and no financial intrest...yada yada.

How about O'Carolan's Brighid Cruis? It's a simple but lovely tune.

We had a BG band play "haste to the wedding" for our recessional and "Hey good looking" for the bridesmaids/mothers walk. It was real hit.

I could'nt find "Brighid Cruis" in O'neills. But I listened to a sound bite and it's an excellent choice. But "Hey Good Lookin?" That's the one. THANK YOU.

I went to a wedding a few years ago and the BG band played
Average White Band "Cut the Cake" at the reception, it was terrific.

'Salty Dog' for that 'shotgun' weddin'

'Anniversary Song' aka 'Waves of the Danube'
Tune by Ivanovici, words by Jolson
The lyrics go, '.... on the night we were wed...'
The old marrieds would appreciate it too. Maybe once the mothers are seated.

It goes "If a picure paints a thousand words then....." I think it's called 'IF' by Bread. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still suppressing after all these years. Might sound nice on a mando.

This one made me and my sisters almost puke after the umpteenth cousin got married that one summer back in the '80's. They all had it played and / or sung. #When the intro was started my sis's and I would look at each other and could hardly contain our laughter. I think I'm over it now.

#Seriously, it is a pretty song, but like anything sweet a little goes a long way. ...Ruffled, pastel tuxedo shirts and all! Poor bastages, looked like a bunch of Ken dolls. At least I could wear my leisure suit. I think Mom still has those leisure suits. #I had 3.

For processional we usually play Sliding Down by Edgar Meyer or Nonesuch, traditional Scots tune(we slow it down some). We have a couple others but those are what gets picked the most by the brides.

The lyrics might not be pleasing and i guess its a waltz. But if you play it instrumentally i think "Kentucky Waltz" would be beatiful for a wedding.

For the song right before the processional my wife and I had a BG band playing "Cuckoo's Nest" Which is funny when you think about the nature of the Cuckoo's relationship and the word cuckold related to that. But it was one of the bands few tunes, and anyhow we've been together happily 25+ years now. For the processional we had John Hartford's "Mystery Above, Mystery Below".

My last name is Green. I realized too late that I should have had someone play "It's not Easy Bein' Green" at my wedding. It will definitely be featured at any 25th or 50th anniversary party we might have. Don't you think it would sound pretty on the mandolin?

Also, I had a friend in junior high who claimed she wanted to have the Police song "Don't Stand so Close to Me" played at her wedding.

And how about that Georgia Satellites song that goes, "No huggy, no kissy until I get a diamond ring."

Yeah on "It's not easy being green". #It would sound kind pretty on mando. #I'm sure Miss Piggy liked it when Kermit T. Frogg sang it.

Wow, thanks for all the cool replies. But "Hey, Good Lookin" is gettin' all the nods here at the ranch. You guys are great.

I always thought John Denver's "Lady" would fit in nicely somewhere during the wedding or reception.

A guitar player friend and I played " For me and My Gal " at a wedding a while back, and it went over great. And we did it in the key of G , which plays out well on the mandolin.
