Default Clifford Brown's Solo on Joy Spring

Here's a little project that I've been working on lately... Joy Spring and Clifford's solo from the 1955 album Clifford Brown and Max Roach. Doesn't lay out super easy on the mandolin, but it's a good exercise and a very tasty solo. I play the head at the top, solo starts at @ 1:10 in the video. Hope you enjoy!

Nice Jordan, we will have to play this next year at Weiser. It is one of my favorite bop era tunes to play. I have a transcription to his pre Brown-Roach days recording. I'll have to re-arrange for mandolin and post it soon.

Clifford Brown developed the bop era ideas of target and approach notes more than anyone else in Jazz history as far as I'm concerned. Each of his solos is a gem and will teach a player a ton about Jazz improv. The book I wrote on Target and Approaches is primarily derived from his and Charlie Parker's playing.

    Jordan,

Thanks for posting both the video and transcription. I liked your earlier post of Au Privave too. Perhaps one day we"ll see a cd of this type of music come out from you or Pete since you obviously both love it and can carry it off in your playing. I would certainly buy it. Thanks again.

    Regards
