Default Looking for Vassar's grass album

    Hi Bluegrassers,

I am looking for a Vassar Clements album that is probably out of print. I figured if anybody would know, it is yall.

It has Lonesome Fiddle Blues on it with Tom Mckinney playing the banjo. I know it also has Kissimee Kid.

From what I understand it was his very first bluegrass album and is not Crossing the Catskills.

    Thanks!

    John

You could try doing a search on the I/net on these recordings :- http://www.discogs.com/artist/883094-Vassar-Clements. Search each individual one & if you find it,do a search for 'used' discs. It's amazing what's out there,

PS - I did exactly that a while back & found the 2 barrier Bros.LP's that i was looking for (i had the one in the blue sleeve)

A quick search found that LFB's was first released by ''The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band'' on "Will The Circle Be Un-broken" :- http://www.secondhandsongs.com/performance/29760 on which Vassar Clements played.John McEuen played banjo on that one. It's also on the recording ''Barnyard Boogie''. http://www.amazon.com/Barnyard-Boogi.../dp/B00C928N06 & the recording ''Vassar Clements'' released in 1975 :-http://www.discogs.com/Vassar-Clements-Vassar-Clements/release/1431999 This does have both the tunes, but it's not Tom McKinney on banjo. I think his first recording was ''Vassar'' released on the Mercury Record label. However,''Crossing The Catskills'' is widely given as the first recording under his own name.

He actually recorded Lonesome Fiddle Blues as a tune called "Old Clem" first. Sounds like he can't get the guitar player to play D Minor either. That is the one with Tom Mckinney on banjo.

    Thanks!

Hi John - Before i posted my last 'post',i did a lot of digging around & came up with all the info.re.Vassar Clements, but very little about Tom McKinney.
'Old Clem' appears on these recordings :- http://www.last.fm/music/Vassar+Clem...altz+Favorites
    http://www.amazon.com/Old-Clem/dp/B00AJIV4OY - ''24 Bluegrass Fiddle Favourites''.
It could be that the tune you're after is now only available as part of a compilation of tunes from various eras.of Vassar's playing,

John, you may want to contact The Last Record Store in Santa Rosa, CA. I was browsing there a few weeks ago and had a very early Vassar album in my hands that might be what you are looking for. I think it was on Rounder.
