Thread: Silverangel

    Default Silverangel

This is one that I built a new top for recently. It took a couple of mandolins before I learned what this redwood needed. I have it now with this one. The tone is right on, volume, depth, everything. I really like this one.

Beautiful... hopefully I'll be able to buy one of your mandolins someday, I've heard a lot of great things about them!

Is it for sale? I have to get one of these someday, it just looks so organic and cool.

Such beautiful distressing, like it was already played at 100 gigs!

Thanks for sharing another one Ken!

The Silverangel's distressing is the best I have ever seen on a mandolin - bar none.

As for organic, I think they could justifiably open a mandolin department in Whole Foods Markets and no-one would complain

I am no fan of artificially distressed instruments, but this one IS beautiful.

Ken - that's a beauty! Mine's been getting a bit of 'natural distress' as much as our band has been playing in multiple states lately, but nothing like that. (Plus mine's only about nine years old!)

Thanks Ken. What kind of finish do you use? I like the semigloss look. I also like that it doesn't look like every other F5 copy, and the lack of fretboard extension is a personal preference of mine. Finally, some builders carve redwood a little thicker due to structural concerns, but this one looks pretty thin at least at the f holes...comments?

yes, they need to be somewhat thicker than spruce. This one is, it may be an illusion. You can't always judge by the edges of the soundholes. I use oil varnish on all my mandolins and a minimal amount of it.
