Thread: My Stridente Mandolin Restored!

  1. #1

    Default My Stridente Mandolin Restored!

I found this little stridente in a junk shop in a very sorry state- big split in the back, splits in the headstock, neck pulled forward out of position, loose tailpiece and ruined bridgepiece.

It had obviously been played a great deal, and must have been greatly treasured during its life, so I decided it deserved to be saved. I bought it and had her restored. It sounds fantastic. The handmade bridge looks out of place, I'll grant you, but it transmits the sound into the instrument beautifully.

Lets hope she lasts another 100 years!

    Looks beautiful!
Who did the restoration and how long did it take?

It was a fellow named Sam Skey who lives in Dorset. It took about 2 weeks.

I was so surprised when I looked at where the splits had been - no trace!! I don't know how he did it, but I'm very grateful to him.

I would recommend him highly- he even emailed me photos during the process
