Default Fugue in E minor (152/D.952) by Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

Schubert's setting of Franz Grillparzer's poetic adaptation of a portion of the Book of Exodus is one of his most unusual, most demanding, and most successful dramatic works. Composed in March 1828, Mirjams Siegesgesang (Miriam's Song of Victory) (D. 952) is essentially a pocket oratorio for soprano, chorus, and piano in ten verses. I was published after Scubert's death in 1828

This fugue is the last verse. Originally for piano (four hands), this arrangement was taken from a previous arrangement for string orchestra by Michel Rondeau, which I have transcribed and modified for mandolin orchestra.

Lots of lovely chromaticisms to play with !

Extraordinary music ! I'm astonished that I'd never heard of it. How did you get the orchestral effect ? I'd love to try my hand at the score and parts. Thanks again

Files downloaded. Thanks again. Will have to get up to speed with bass clef.

I first listened to the soundcloud file on the iphone - sound quality a bit tinny and for a moment wondered if I was hearing a harpsichord or fortepiano.
