    Default Ian Hardie tunes

The late Scots fiddler and composer Ian Hardie was a good friend and bandmate of both myself and fellow Scots mandolinist Kevin MacLeod.

We are involved in a tribute concert for him in Nairn on 3rd Sept.

I have spent quite a lot of this weekend playing some of his tunes. They are available on his old website.

Grand tunes, but sometimes not that easy. I have particularly been working on The Blue Head Reel and The Eathie Reel.

Thanks for putting up the link, Dagger, I have moved it on to facebook. Hopefully the concert and dance will be a full house.

Here's two tunes in the key of E by Ian, which I must admit I find to be quite a workout.
    Good practise though.

In general terms, there are not really that many tunes in E which get played much at sessions.
Tend to get shifted to D sometimes.
However, E has its own characteristics and it's good to be more fluent in what I think is a bright-sounding and underused key.

I'm sorry to learn of Ian's passing and I hope the tribute concert is a success. What a great way to honor a musical friend!

Thank you for posting the link to his music -- those are all excellent tunes and will provide many hours of enjoyment for myself as I learn them and eventually for others as I get up the nerve to perform them!

Ian's untimely death was a terrible blow to many people.

This was the last set at the evening memorial concert for Ian Hardie, and the last jig, Hardie's Triumph was composed by our band leader Freeland Barbour. It was a fine evening, poignant, and uplifting, with many wonderful performances from many of the ensembles that Ian had been a mainstay in over the years. Sorely missed by all.

The 2nd tune is also one of Ian's compositions here.

I totally missed out on this thread (apparently, most of it happened while I was offline for holidays). What a lighthearted concert. The longer I watch the dancers, the less I understand the choreography - how do you know whose arm to engage next?

The secret lies in our Scottish DNA, Bertram. Mind you, I don't think that the members of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society would approve of the ceilidh dancing being done here! They are a much more staid lot.
