Thread: Help identifying sample originals

    Default Help identifying sample originals

I've attached two samples of what appear to be old swing/jazz/big band songs. These have been reprocessed into a new sound/song, so may well be a totally different key/tempo. Would anyone have any idea of what the original songs are called/who they are written and performed by?

Also, suggestions for any other similar releases would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance!

I listened. I don't know the tunes. Sorry.

Fiendishly difficult this, they are crackly and really overprocessed. I thought I knew the second one but I have listened too many times and now I don't recognise it any more.

You should post them to a swing - big band forum site. Some expert will likely be able to identify not only the tune, but the band and the soloist. And probably pretty quickly.

A similar recording of mandolin would likely be identified pretty quickly here.

Some big band with strings -- almost sounds like Glen Miller but could be someone else. Hard to hear the melody esp in the 2nd one and the selections are a big short. #1 is a blues of some sort.

No 1 nearly has a phrase from "the Stripper" but that's not the song. I keep thinking I know it - sort of Tommy Dorsey sound.

But hey! what's the mandolin connection?

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I had looked through a lot of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman tunes in the past, but nothing sounds quite like these sounds (as I'd imagine pre-processing).

No direct mandolin connection, sorry! Was just trying to tap the fountain of knowledge that exists here Unfortunately I've failed at finding a decent big band discussion forum to pose this question.

However, any and all thoughts appreciated!
