I use them on many of my bowlbacks. For the vintage ones I like the Dolce (light gauge). I used to own a modern Italian handmade bowlback and it came with the medio Dogal strings. That is all I ever used on it and it sounded great.
These are not mellow strings like Thomastiks. They are sweet and bright which is the tone I love. My old Vega bowlback sounds wonderful with those strings.
I have not used them on an archtop mandolin but I think they would be nice on a flattop as well.
