    Default Allman Brothers

Friends, Has anyone tried to play In Memory of Elizabth Reed on mandolin?

I know the Acousticats have done it, as has Butch Baldassari. Has anyone come across any mando tab for that song?

Tabs out there for any other Allman Bros. songs?

    Thanks!

Haven't tried IMER on mandolin, but Little Martha lays out nicely:

I think "Blue Sky" would sound great on mando. Or just about anything. One of my all time favorite songs.

Always loved the Allman Bros, and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is my favorite of their tunes. I find Little Martha works real nice in G, going up the neck on a mando or OM. Midnight Rider, Blue Sky, No way out are all part of our sets.

I have not tabbed this out but I do play a somewhat simplified version. Here is an MP3 from this morning's coffee break (the link at the start of my post) to check out as played on my 2010 Heiden A Artist (that I just got last week).

    Cheers!

Has to be, Alan. Balsam Range does a dandy version of it, BTW.

I think Les Brers in A Minor would be a good fit for mandolin, too.

Ah, but try to find a stand-up bass man to get the Berry Oakley funk thing going....

One of the most under-rated, over-looked bassists ever! I loved his sense of melody on the bass, while still keeping the bottom end rock solid.

Taken from the side of the stage where Greg would be holdin' down the B-3. Great pic! Where was it madeEdit: Just saw the link. What a great story! I remember them from the free concert days at Piedmont Park here. Some of the stories that still circulate about those days are legendary.

Folks, I just received a nice and detailed transcription of my solo arrangement of Little Martha, which is referenced earlier in this thread (here's the video link, too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLvDHv0jldM
It was transcribed by Nick DiSebastian, who runs a custom transcription business http://www.nickdisebastian.com/transcriptions. He's a former student of Mr. John McGann, and a friend of my daughter Isa Burke as well, small world! He said it was fine to pass it around, so you can either private message me, or drop a note to Nick at nickdisebastian@comcast.net. Hope you enjoy it.

The Providence Mandolin Orchestra did a cover of "In Memory of Eleizabeth Reed" but I don't think it ever made it on a recording. It was a very interesting arrangement perhaps obtained from Butch Baldassari IIRC. "Whippin' Post" would be awesome played by an orchestra!!

I was screwing around with IMEL last night on my electric mando. It's easy. You can play the whole thing with a minor pentatonic pattern and occasionally the second pops up right around where that cool bend is in the theme. The B or bridge part where there's a pattern played which is them moved up a minor third and repeated is fun to play.

Hey BayAreaDude, Could you elaborate more on how you play it? What are the chord shapes? What is the pentatonic scale? Better yet, could you post any tab for it? Thanks!
