    Welcome, Pete.

Ashbury is a UK brand distributed (and probably owned) by Gremlin Music and sold through their associated retail Hobgoblin chain and other UK music stores. Most current instruments (possibly all) are made in China.

GR3136 is not the model number, it is Gremlin's stock catalogue reference for the instrument. It would originally have had an AM-xxx designation, which is needed to trace the original specification, since your mandolin is no longer available new.

In general, Ashbury instruments are quite serviceable (although they do need a proper set up). They are built to sell at prices somewhat lower than the well-known Kentucky equivalent models.

You might want to contact Gremlin or Hobgoblin. As the brand owners, they might well be able to give you some info.

The older Ashbury instruments tended to have some laminated wood in their construction; presumably you can see whether or not the top is laminated on your mandolin. If it is solid it will be pressed rather than carved.

Would I be right in thinking you're here in the UK?

    Hi Again,
After having the secondhand Ashbury for a couple of nights, I was not too impressed with the sound, or the finish. The sound seemed unbalanced and "twangy" across the strings ( even after putting a new set on , and a set up ) The Finnish left a lot to be desired.
So exchanged for a non electric Barnes & Mullins Salvino. Solid Mahogany top, Solid Maple sides - sounded and looked 100 times better.
    Any thoughts on it ?

I believe that the Ashbury range of mandolins was designed by a friend of mine,Phil Davidson from the Bristol area of the UK. I stress 'designed' because i think they're actually made in the far East somewhere. www.davidsoninstruments.com/
Phil is a top notch builder of banjos, guitars & mandolins - see also www.acousticmusicbox.com/index.php?cPath=22

Come on now Allen. The next thing we'll get are posts about mashed 'Swedes' & turnips, & seafood described as 'crushed 'Asians'.
I remeber years back,Mel Brooks was interviewed on UK TV & the interviewer noted that Mel had 'turnups' on his trousers - you refer to them as 'cuffs' in the US (we have those on shirt sleeves). Mel spent the whole of the rest of the show puzzling as to why anybody would think that he had 'Turnips' in/on his trousers,

Yes it was a total clunker. There is an edit button to correct stuff, if we happen to check it over.
