I was just looking at the mandolin archives and noticed a 1925 Fern that has been recently added to the archives. I was suprised because I thought I was looking at pictures of my 2003 Gibson Fern. My mando is colored exactly like this old Fern as a matter of fact the only noticeable difference was the tuners. So I just thought that I would thank Gibson For thier effort in recreating the great mandolins of the past to such strict standards.

Not only do they look right, but the sound is there, too. My 2003 Fern sounds as good as the Loar I played last summer!

you're right I forgot to mention the tone. At two different jams I have been at I have had people mention how old my mandolin sounded. I see that there is a fern in the classifieds but it has a lighter finish than mine. actually most of the new ferns have that lighter finish that is why I was so attracted to mine when I seen it. Check out the archives the Serial # is 84252 it is a dead ringer for my fern.

My 2004 is extremely dark, just lucky, I guess... and the sound is right, too.
What a long, strange trip its been.
