    Neck Block Crack

In doing a neck reset on one of my stewmac f5 kits I found a neck (head) block crack in one corner of the dovetail slot going south toward the body cavity. The joint was probably a bit too tight...

    Re: Mississippi Sawyer

    Hi Ivan,
Not sure how much air travel would be but there are usually some number of folks from England and points much farther that come to the Kaufman acoustic camp each year. Its probably less...

  13. Re: Kaufman Mando Kamp - June 20 to 26 - who's going?

What Bill said! the 4-hour Bluegrass Workout is a veritable library of tunes for kamp. From his list I would be sure to get familiar with numbers 1, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, and especially 20 to get...

    Re: O.M. In The White

    Jim,
The instrument might sound different after it breaks in a bit so that would be the safest thing to try. Otherwise, you could attempt surgery:
This takes a bit of courage but if you can get...

Ah, the infamous Pickloser = "PLAY PLAY PLAY".. the Energizer Jammer :) . I remember now, you definitely get my vote for the most enthusiastic picker of KK09!

There will be a lot of jamming going on all over town in Dahlonega this weekend. There will also be some workshops I believe. Hope this isn't a repeat.

    Re: Tru Oil or No?

Late as ever, but in my experience Tru oil is very easy, very forgiving, and each coat is very thin so it will take quite a few if you want a glossy finish. I usually seal with shellac first then...

    Re: X Bracing or no

Looks like its about 0.10" ~ 0.11" but I added a thin cross grained path to reinforce around the sound-hole making it a bit thicker than that where I can measure; hence, the approximation.

    Good...

No the X extends to the rim in that direction but I do recall there being additional support around the sound-hole and toward the neck joint. Also note that the bracing does have an induced arch and...

    Re: X Bracing or no

    Hey Jim,
A little late but here is my limited experience:

I built one of Don Kawalek's octave kits that is a flat-top design that uses X bracing and a round sound-hole. For reference the back,...

    Re: tonegard modification?

Just a thought, you could put a strip of foam along the lower edge of the tone-guard to block the rocking motion. Something like 1/2" (3/4" would probably be better) thick closed cell weather...
