I checked the album out on Spotify this morning. What was really intriguing is that each of the pieces has an introduction, explaining the instruments used and how the arrangement was constructed....
I do like v-picks, and it would be cool to try a tremolo pick.
This. I have one set of music. I don't have different charts for mandolin, guitar, and piano.
2013: practice with my metronome at or below 60 for the entire year. I'll primarily be working in "Getting Into Jazz Mandolin".
I really want to take the "go slow" mantra to heart. It's my hope...
Signed up for April.
Time to hit the woodshed...
I find that singing the melody to myself while soloing helps me play a counterpoint part and keeps my phrasing well grounded.
I'm an iPad user, but found that this may be your best bet: http://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/. I don't know much about it, but if it works with the bt105 page turning pedals it can't be all bad.
I've started using hornpipes and jigs. Largely the same content, but more musically satisfying.
I will say that one of the best versions of Autumn Leaves I ever heard was a live recording by Miles. He never stated the melody. In fact, if you didn't know it was Autumn Leaves, you'd be completely...
Yes. I mostly listen to jam bands and jazz, and I only expect the head to remain the same, and maybe not even that from a really great player.
By the way, my collection is nowhere near this...

Guitar-style, for sure. I've tried one-shouldering it, but I'm broad across the midsection, you might say, and it kept sliding to the right.

Nothing so much as none have taken me to the point of saying "ok, that's it". I play a lot of guitar too, and so I've got different needs for different kinds of playing there-- little...
One follow-up: don't read music you know. The less you know the music, the more you will rely on your reading skills and the less you will be playing tunes by feel/ear.
At least $300, could me around $500. I'm still on the quest for the one.
A big pile of music. Set the metronome nice and slow, and read page after page of just about anything. Don't go back to fix any errors, just keep moving. The music doesn't need to be complex.
I...
I have a gig the night they play in Dallas. Still trying to decide what to do about that.
I use unrealbook to organize all of my charts (and there's a lot of them).
Jazzbooks.com, ask them to get the message to him. They tend to be pretty responsive.
That being said, you miss out on a lot if you don't get the book as well. Some of the books are very, very...
This summer you'll want to bring her to Acoustic Music Camp. Great local folks. (I'm DFW based myself)

Thanks for pointing out this "wrong piano" video. Completely fabulous.
I'll probably be going to the Arlington TX acoustic music camp.
I think that the red one includes a mic, whereas the blue is vibration only. Blue works fine for me.
Bump, as the jam is this weekend.
