I'm not to far from you and have found nothing in the area. Seems everything is in the Western part, but the only way I'm driving seven hours for a jam is if I hear banjo's behind me :)

You know, now that you mention it, I'd really like to change the name on the headstock to 'THE SKIPPY'
Seriously, I'm kind of stuck on the caretaker for future generations bit.....
Thanks...
The one you like more is going to get played the most. Personally, I like a little radius, but not alot. I don't really like a flat board, but I wouldn't let that get between me and a great mando. In...
Hey Shaun,
The mando's in really good cared for shape, but I wouldn't exactly call it a collector's piece. It really has it in the tone department, ya' know, that aged pure fundamental with gobs...
I'm considering having some modifications made to my 1923 F-4.
New fingerboard with a slight radius and new frets which should improve intonation and playability.
New bridge, nut and tuners.

Almost forgot about this one:

It's not all bluegrass, buts it's all good. Steffey rips on one of the fastest versions...
"Red Allen/Frank Wakefield "Red Allen, Frank Wakefield and the Kentuckians" Folkways album originally issued in 1964 and recently reissued by Smithsonian on CD"
I'll second that one. Very tasty...
I went with nickel hardware, ebony buttons, top and side bound with a slightly radiused fingerboard and medium frets.
Zoinks, just saw that. Well, maybe someone with more money than patience will come along and snag it. I've played a friends enough to get on Pete's list. Mine is #50 in the new batch, but now I'm...
Hey Scotti,
if you're going to be in Pete's shop, please check out my mando. It's #50 in the new batch
Kids are fascinated by the mandolin, don't ask me why, they just are. In a similar situation I generally have the kid go and wash his hands then sit him down and put the mandolin in his/her hands and...
That happened to me once while playing guitar. Took me a few minutes to find the crack. Whatever it is, take the tension off the instrument right away and start humidifying it.
Thanks to all who suggested that I might be tightening up my arm. This appears to be the problem.
Hey Jeff,
A BG jam started up closer to my house. I've been going to this one as it's smaller and quieter and the breaks get passed around pretty evenly.
I still would like to make it down to...
Olaf,
I have been working on a couple of tunes with tremolo - Watson's Blues, Blue Moon of Kentucky and Evening Prayer Blues.
Bertram, maybe I am tensing up and I'm not realizing it. It doesn't...
Thanks all, I'll try answer a couple of questions
"The only thing I can think of is that your arm is too tense, every thing seems to work better if you are relaxed."
I recently switched from...
Anyone ever get a deep pain in their picking arm -(forearm and bicep). When I first started on the mando, I went through the fatigue in my fretting hand, made some technical adjustments and it went...
Oh, never mind then:grin:
So, we all talk about all this mando nonsense day in and day out.....someone puts his mando knowledge to work a spots a good deal, and you all want to kick him for it. Sheeesh. What a bunch of:crying:

Thanks Red.
If I were going to buy it, I'd visit in person before putting my cash on the barrel head. Besides, it would be worth the trip just to see and play whatever else he has in his closet. Quite frankly,...
hard to be certain from the pictures, even the close-ups, but the finish doesn't look to be thick
