I'm so excited for getting my Ratliff A model back from Audey. He's replacing the neck. It's going to be a great mandolin!
I wrote this one in the 90's when I recorded with my Tascam 4-track cassette recorder. tonight I digitized it and named it. Naming it was hard. If anybody has anything better that I like, I'd like...
I'm using my KM-180S Kentucky A model in this recording. Hope you enjoy this Flatt & Scruggs tune called Will the Roses Bloom (Where She Lies Sleeping).

I started out in a family band playing banjo. As I got older and able to drive I played banjo in Bluegrass Cracker Jaks, mandolin with Diamonds in the Rough, banjo for the rest of these - Don Brown...
That could be a good point about the tight nut slots. It happened on both E strings. I made the nut out of bone, and didn't really use good nut files for the slots. That very well could be.
I have played mandolin professionally since I was 17 years old, and I'm 41 now. I guess I really don't know how you're supposed to wind strings on the post.
I NEVER had problems with the E string...
My mandolin got to Audey Ratliff's last Monday via UPS. They were holding it over the weekend because of the weather. I haven't talked to Audey but I assume it's ok.
I thought maybe Frank Ray owned it now, but I wasn't sure. Thanks so much.
Thanks Spencer for the link and information.
Thanks Darryl.
This is the dark purple hard smooth pick that comes from Dunlop. I love them. I know my tone could be brighter with a thinner guage, but I have so much more control with a thick pick. I buy 'em...
Hey Hendrik,
Good to hear from you. I remember not being able to go to that tour for some reason. Hope you're doing well.
I live next to the E Peoria hub.
About 1997 or 1998, I was playing banjo for Chris Jones and the Night Drivers. We had lost Jesse Brock to the Lynn Morris Band. We enlisted, for a couple of jobs, Barry Mitterhoff for our mission...
Here's the results so far:
In first place, the Collins MT series with 13 votes.
Second place, Northfield with 3 votes
Third place is a tie: A9 Gibson, Ratcliff, Flatiron, and Pava
The rest...
Cool. Oh well, it's probably not as cold there as it is here in Illinois.
Do they go unprotected from the cold, or heat, or do they regulate the temps? I sent a mandolin from central Illinois to eastern Tennessee, and it got held up at the UPS hub in Bristol because of...
I love this tune Opus 38 by David Grisman. I overdubbed two mandolins in this one.

Here's a picture of my boss, Ashley Lewis. Great singer and songwriter, really good mandolin player. I get to play banjo in her band.
I don't remember about the talcum powder, but then again I was young and didn't pay attention to it. But I'm sure you're talking of the same man, because he always played in Gilson, IL for Oliver...

I own a Ratliff, which the RA-5 goes for $2500 now. Mine neck is being repaired right now.. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the tone or anything, and the playability is great. I really think...
This is a recording of me on mandolin and banjo called New Ratty Rag. Ratty is my nickname for my Ratliff mandolin. Hope you enjoy!
